Atzanos Traditional Houses

Restored with reverent diligence and respect for the local architecture, the original two-storey house has been transformed  into two independent one-room studios following the old “Samothracian housekeeping customs”. Stone, wood, iron and the unique “tsatmas” (the local architecture) dominate impressively.

Each studio (2-4 persons) has its own distinctive style. Built completely of stone, with the stone exposed, it has been decorated with much care and with wood as the main material. Fully renovated, it retains its character whilst offering all modern conveniences. It consists of one room, following the local custom, and a bathroom with shower. A fully equipped wooden kitchen and a wooden double bed with a state of the art memory foam mattress (made of natural materials without springs) are included while the sofa in the living room area can be converted into a bed. The coolness of the stone walls is refreshing in the summer months whilst in the winter an environmentally friendly pellet stove, or, for whoever prefers them, heating radiators ensure warmth.

This residence also provides:

  • a 37 inch LCD television
  • satellite channels
  • internet access
  • a washing machine
  • a tumble dryer
  • a vacuum cleaner
  • an iron and ironing board
  • a hairdryer

For those of you who do not wish to spend time on the preparation of meals whilst on holiday we have taken care to provide breakfast. The picturesque café “Lydia”, only five minutes away on foot provides breakfast with a variety of local products such as “misithra” (a type of soft, unsalted cheese) with honey, homemade conserves “composta”, sourdough bread from Chora’s traditional bakery, walnut cake, and “ravani” (a semolina based cake) from the traditional confectioners of Chora, as well as the renowned “spoon sweets” made from local fruit.
